Secluded in the deep northwest of Shanghai with a rough distance of 30 km to the downtown, Qiu Xia Pu's impressive establishment of vegetation and exquisite landscape design brings the neighborhood a wonderful destination for recreation or nature touch. It is also one of the five best classical gardens of Shanghai represents the great arts and techniques in garden design and construction that survive from ancient China, the other four are Yu Garden in Huangpu, Zui Bai Chi in Songjiang, Gu Yi Garden in Jiading, and Qu Shui Garden in Qingpu.
The exact origin of Qiu Xia Pu is not traceable, there are several versions of its beginning story prevailing in the studies about Qiu Xia Pu, which mark its origin as early as the late Southern Song Dynasty. Convincing evidence suggests the incarnation of Qu Xia Pu was a private garden possessed by Gong Hong 龚弘 who was the minister of public works at the time (1478-1526).
Going through destructions and renovations filled in centuries, the garden is now a fascinating scenery destination open to the public with a ground area of 8.19 acres (33,156 square meters).
The lush vegetation, tranquil ponds, graceful pavilions and halls, and other typical classical garden characteristics are all wrapped up in a delightful trip led by meandering paths throughout the garden.
