The Former French Concession offers a side of Shanghai that feels completely different from both the historic Old Town and the futuristic skyline of Lujiazui. Here, leafy plane trees line quiet streets, elegant European-style villas sit behind iron gates, and charming cafés and bistros dot every corner.
This area was once the city’s high-end residential district in the 1930s — home to many historical figures, artists, and intellectuals. It’s also one of the best places to experience Shanghai’s unique blend of East and West.
Take a leisurely stroll under the shade of the trees, admire the old architecture, and stop for a glass of wine or a good cup of coffee. This tour is all about slowing down and enjoying the city’s quieter, more refined side.
Your itinerary can also be customized to your needs. We offer multilingual guides—just specify your preferred language when booking.

- Wukang Road Walk: As we stroll north along Wukang Road, we’ll pass by several former residences of historical figures and admire the diversity of architectural styles and the stories behind them.
- Zhang Leping’s Former Residence (Wuyuan Road): Step inside the former home of renowned cartoonist Zhang Leping to explore what life was like in a classic Shanghai garden lane house.
- Hengfu Style Museum (West Fuxing Road): Located in the Hengshan-Fuxing Historical and Cultural Area, this small museum offers insights into the evolution of the neighborhood and its unique architectural charm.
- Taojiang & Dongping Roads: These quiet residential streets are lined with protected heritage homes — many of which once belonged to political and business elites during the Republic of China era.
- Final Stops: We’ll wrap up the walk near Yueyang Road, stopping by the Pushkin Statue, the elegant French Renaissance-style villa at No. 79 Fenyang Road, and the French Neoclassical-style mansion at No. 150 Fenyang Road, also designed by Hudec.
