Why You’ll Love It:
Hop on a hand-rowed boat, glide under ancient stone bridges, and watch the white walls and black-tile rooftops of traditional homes reflect in the water. It’s like stepping into a living painting — or traveling back a thousand years. That’s the charm of a Jiangnan water town.
You can choose between two destinations:
- Zhujiajiao 朱家角 – Located in Qingpu District, Shanghai, it’s closer to the city and free to enter.
- Zhouzhuang 周庄 – Located in Suzhou, about 20 km further than Zhujiajiao. The area is a bit bigger and requires a ticket (RMB 100 per person/USD 14).
Both towns offer a similar experience: peaceful canals, ancient buildings, charming streets, and local snacks.
What to Expect:
Your driver and guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you directly to the water town of your choice.
Once there, you can stroll through stone-paved alleyways, explore old architecture, browse local shops, try some traditional street food — or hop on a small boat rowed by a local ferryman for a different view from the water (boat ride costs extra).
