Shanghai History Museum is dedicated to showing a comprehensive cultural evolution that has taken place on this legendary land from its ancient age.


The exhibits are grouped by different ages into 4 floors.

The lobby is the hall that has been equipped with an array of interactive screens to give a general introduction about the city to visitors. 

The 2nd floor is the exhibition room telling stories about ancient Shanghai by exhibiting abundant cultural relics.

The exhibits showcased on the 3rd & 4th floor are committed to bringing in the historical incidents or events that happened in the city's modern age and have profoundly influenced the city's destiny.

On the 5th floor, a western restaurant attached with a rooftop complement the museum with delightful chilling options.


Entry to the museum is free, a registration procedure is set mandatory at the entrance door, visitors need to register by providing simple personal credentials.


The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday 9am-5pm, last entry by 4pm, closed on Monday.


Access to the museum is quite convenient as it lies next to the People's Park where is the transportation hub in People's Square that comprises metro line 1, line 2, and line 8.
