Guangfulin Archaeological Site 广富林古文化遗址

Founded in the Tang Dynasty, Songjiang was long the region's principal urban center, eclipsing Shanghai until recent centuries. It served as the local administrative capital far into the Qing Dynasty, dominating also as a commercial and cultural hub. The Songjiang District is therefore a destination of particular historical interest. Its classical gardens are among the best-preserved in the municipality, with Zuibaichi Park 醉白池公园 worthy of special note. Other important heritage sites include the Song Dynasty Square Pagoda 松江方塔, Xilin Pagoda 西林塔, and Huzhu Pagoda 护珠塔, the Yuan Dynasty Songjiang Mosque 松江清真寺, and the Li Pagoda 李塔 dating back to Tang Emperor Taizong.

The District's Sheshan National Forest Park 佘山国家森林公园 combines great natural beauty with attractions of extraordinary historical significance. It's western hill is the site of the Sheshan Observatory, and Sheshan Basilica. The eastern hill has an aviary containing over 10,000 birds, and a butterfly garden.

The Sheshan Happy Valley Theme Park 欢乐谷公园 was the largest fun fair in the municipality, prior to the opening of Shanghai Disneyland. It has seven themed zones: Sunshine Beach, Happy Times, Typhoon Bay, Gold Mine Town, Ant Kingdom, Shanghai Beach, and Shangri-La Woods.

Shanghai's growing universities have expanded into the new Songjiang University Town, which contains campuses for the Shanghai International Studies University 上海外国语大学 (SISU), Donghua University 东华大学, the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade 上海对外经贸大学, the Shanghai University of Engineering Science 上海工程技术大学, the Shanghai Lixin University of Commerce 上海立信会计金融学院, the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts 上海视觉艺术学院, and the East China University of Politics and Law 华东政法大学.

Songjiang's Chedun Town is the center of Shanghai film-making. For movie buffs, the Shanghai Film Park, situated in the town, places costumes and props on public exhibition.

The huge Guangfulin Archaeological Site 广富林古文化遗址, covering 250 square kilometers, contains structures and relics estimated to be 5,000 years old, alongside more recent remains, including rich deposits from the Zhou Dynasty. Many of the most important finds are now on public display, in the new Guangfulin Relics Park.
